AI dalam transformasi digital

The role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the higher education ecosystem is becoming increasingly imperative. The presence of AI is considered a fundamental condition in technology that must be harnessed, as the absence of AI is viewed as inefficient for institutional operations.

“Andrias Ekoyuwono, Chief of Corporate Strategy at kumparan.com, emphasized that AI enables more efficient learning and research. Without AI, the output is likely to be slower and of lower quality,” he stated during an event at FMIPA UGM on Friday (29/9).

As a speaker at the Program for Developing Literacy, Culture, and Skill Capacity to Support Digital Transformation at the University of Gadjah Mada, Andrias discussed the utilization of AI within the university ecosystem. This extends to teaching, research, administrative management, and various other requirements.

AI’s presence, according to Andrias, can be leveraged in all aspects of the university to streamline repetitive tasks. As a result, all university stakeholders can focus on tasks that can lead to better outcomes.

“Professors, students, and educational staff can make use of AI. They can use AI to create more engaging and personalized learning systems tailored to individual needs,” he explained.

He hopes that all universities, including UGM, will adopt AI according to their specific needs to further enhance the quality of their campuses. However, he cautions that AI is subject to ethical boundaries and other limitations that must be considered to ensure that AI values align with those of the university.

With AI, the landscape of academic research has expanded significantly and become more accessible. The availability of various AI-supported platforms has improved the path to discovery, making academic research more efficient and accessible. For example, Semantic Scholar accelerates literature searches and enhances academic investigations supported by AI.

“As we enter the era of AI-equipped education and management, the challenge lies in combining innovation with the fundamental values of the university,” he emphasized.

Digital Transformation Workshop

The Directorate of Human Resources, in collaboration with the Bureau of Digital Transformation in 2023, organized a Program for Developing Literacy, Culture, and Skill Capacity to Support Digital Transformation within the University of Gadjah Mada. This program aims to provide knowledge about a comprehensive concept of digital transformation, including initiating and supporting initiatives for change starting with human resources.

The activities are divided into two cohorts, with two classes in each implementation, aiming to involve approximately 409 participants, including university and faculty leaders, managerial officials, coordinators within the KPTU environment, Faculty/School Administrative Office Heads, faculty/school coordinators, and representatives from faculties/schools/units.

Dr. Mardhani Riasetiawan, M.T, the Head of the Bureau of Digital Transformation, stated that the success or failure of the digital transformation process is highly dependent on human resources concerning readiness, abilities, critical thinking, innovation, and the willingness to take concrete steps. He emphasized that digital transformation places human resources as the subject of the digital transformation process, strategically positioned for long-term investment in the digital transformation process.

Hence, human resources need to be developed, enhanced, and actively involved in all digital transformation processes within the work units,” he said at the FMIPA UGM Auditorium on Tuesday (26/9).

He explained that the UGM Digital Transformation Program, initiated by the Bureau of Digital Transformation, focuses on developing digital literacy and culture, capacity development, skills, and future skills. This digital transformation process for human resources is seen as nurturing a digital culture (mindset) by starting with a continuous literacy cycle, which is expected to become a habit and an integrated work culture.

This process will also have an impact on the emerging need for capabilities and capacity from human resources to execute transformative processes. To meet the needs for literacy and digital culture development, capacity development, skills, and future skills, a good human resources transformation process with a focus on Digital Transformation is required.

“Of course, the program we develop and implement is in line with and supports the theme of UGM’s 2023 Dies Natalis, which is ‘Harmonious Digital Transformation: Innovation and Humanity’,” he explained.

The program is conducted in the form of structured training consisting of five modules: Module for Initiating Digital Transformation, Critical and Logical Thinking Module, Data Awareness Module, Digital Productivity Module, and Innovation Module. As of September 26, 2023, there have been five training sessions.

On Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at the MM FEB UGM Auditorium, the Module for Initiating Digital Transformation covered topics such as the Definition and Concept of Digital Transformation and Digital Transformation Components by Romi Satria Wahono, M.Eng., Ph.D (CEO BrainCorp), as well as the Digital Transformation Business Process and the Role of Human Resources in Digital Transformation by Oscar Daniel Bakoro (Government Digital Transformation Expert).

On Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at the MM FEB UGM Auditorium, the Data and Information Technology Module was covered by Oscar Daniel Bakoro (Government Digital Transformation Expert), followed by a discussion on Collaborative Digital Transformation Ideas by Dr. Mardhani Riasetiawan, M.T. (Head of the Bureau of Digital Transformation).

On Thursday, September 21, at the FMIPA UGM Auditorium, the Critical and Logical Thinking Module included topics like Reasoning and Critical Thinking by Dr. Dian Kesumapramudya Nurputra, M.Sc, Ph.D, SpA (FKKMK), and Wahyono, Ph.D (FMIPA), as well as Activating Critical Thinking and Barriers to Critical Thinking by Adrian Choo Guang You (Sales Trainer – Field Enablement, APJ, AWS Singapore).

On Friday, September 22, 2023, at the FMIPA UGM Auditorium, the Tools for Critical Thinking and Problem Solving Module was led by Prof. Dr. Ir. Ridi Ferdiana, S.T., M.T., IPM (Director of TI), and Dr. Dian Kesumapramudya Nurputra, M.Sc, Ph.D, SpA (FKKMK). A discussion on Collaboration with Critical Thinking followed.

On Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at the FMIPA UGM Auditorium, the Data Awareness Module included topics like Data and Data Sources by Muchamad Agus Romansyah (Senior Solutions Architect AWS Public Sector, AWS Indonesia), and Data Types and Characteristics as well as Data Management by Dr. Mardhani Riasetiawan, M.T. (Head of the Bureau of Digital Transformation).
